HS Teacher Responds To YouTuber Jake Paul’s Video Dissing Teachers

by Drew Perkins, Director of ThoughtStretchers Education

Let’s be clear, school hasn’t always been engaging and empowering for students but as I’ve said many times, teachers are passionate about their work and certainly don’t set out to bore students. With that said, this teacher from Hawley, Texas puts his own rap skills on display in response to a recent video (My Teacher) from YouTuber Jake Paul where he slams school and his teachers.

You may have heard of Jake Paul from from social media and/or YouTube or perhaps through his brother Logan whose recent video vlogging episode gone bad showed dead bodies in a Japanese “suicide forest”. While I wouldn’t give Paul much credibility in the education reform discussion we shouldn’t overlook the need for shifting teaching and learning to better meet the needs of students as we prepare them for the modern world.

We’ll leave that discussion for other blogs and (archived) ThoughtStretchers Education Podcast episodes but for now, watch and enjoy as @madouble does his thing in defense of teachers everywhere.

Awesome! We all do it for the kids. They are why we are teachers. Regardless of administrative or curriculum changes, low pay, negative press, tough neighbourhoods and tougher personalities or the distinct possibility of being shot, we are there to help kids grow and learn and be better than they currently are. Thank you for your service every day with your students. They deserve the best and you are obviously it!
