Our Workshops

Creating Powerful Writers
The written word has always been important. But now, it may be more important than ever, with people learning and working across time, across media, and across the globe. Perhaps more than ever, students need to be confident and competent writers. This workshop will help you create a writing-rich classroom where writers inquire, collaborate, and create. Explore the three main types of academic writing (writing-to-learn, process writing, and writing on demand). Learn best practices in teaching and assessing writing, including how to use peer conferences effectively. Find ways to provide time and ownership to student writers so that they become powerful writers for life.

Creating Passionate Readers
Competent readers do well on every academic achievement measure, but reading well has benefits far beyond academia. Lifelong readers are lifelong learners. This workshop will help you create the reading-rich classroom where students read joyfully to inquire, collaborate, conduct research, and understand human experience. Explore how to provide students more choice in reading and how to create reading tasks that mirror what readers do outside of school. Additionally, explore proven strategies that require students to dig deeper into text and to discuss it meaningfully with peers.
Facilitating Robust Vocabulary
The size and strength of one’s vocabulary impacts how well one reads, writes, and speaks. This workshop provides key points from research and establishes the urgency for effective vocabulary instruction. Learn best practices for teaching both general and discipline-specific vocabulary words in addition to exploring digital tools and apps that can support vocabulary learning.
