John Hattie’s body of work suggests that surface learning is the foundation for deeper learning, transfer learning is crucial for success in the real world, and deeper learning is facilitated through inquiry teaching.

Getting students to learn more deeply requires their cognitive engagement and that rarely comes without them being interested. Capturing the imagination of students can take many forms and I would argue that all of them brush up against the power of questions waiting to be answered.
